Deputies arrest accuser in local gang-rape case

A Rancho Cucamonga girl who has accused Greg Haidl, son of a

former Orange County assistant sheriff Don Haidl, and two other boys

of gang-raping her in 2002 was arrested Saturday on drug charges.

The 18-year-old, whose name has not been released, was reportedly

arrested by sheriff’s deputies in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of

possession of methamphetamine for sale. Orange County Chief Assistant

Dist. Atty. Chuck Middleton confirmed that she had been arrested, but

said he didn’t feel it would affect the case when it goes to retrial

in January.

Kyle Nachreiner, Keith Spann and Greg Haidl are accused of

gang-raping the allegedly unconscious girl on a pool table at Don

Haidl’s Corona del Mar home in 2002. They videotaped the incident. A

mistrial was declared in June when a jury deadlocked.

“I don’t think it should affect the trial in any way,” Middleton

said of the woman’s arrest. “We’re concerned about the defendants’

behavior on the night in question.”

Joseph Cavallo, an attorney for Greg Haidl, said the arrest would

affect the woman’s credibility as a witness.

“Hopefully this will wake [prosecutors] up and make them realize

they shouldn’t be prosecuting these three boys,” Cavallo said.

Prosecutors are asking a judge to revoke Greg Haidl’s bail

following a traffic accident last weekend. Police said he had been

drinking before the accident and though not legally intoxicated, it

was in violation of the terms of his bail.

It was the latest in a string of run-ins with the law, which

included charges of statutory rape of another 16-year-old girl.
