UCI gets final tuneup

The UC Irvine men’s basketball team concludes its exhibition schedule
against Cal State Los Angeles tonight at 7:05 at the Bren Events
Center.
The Anteaters defeated visiting Simon Fraser, 84-62, in their
exhibition opener Saturday.
In that game, UCI was paced by junior guard Jeff Gloger, who
scored 22 points, including 9-of-9 shooting from the field, and
collected 13 rebounds.
Junior Ross Schraeder had 16 points, while senior Greg Ethington
added 14 for Coach Pat Douglass’ Anteaters.
Junior transfer Aaron Fitzgerald, a point guard, had nine assists
against the NAIA school from British Columbia, Canada.
Tonight’s visitors are coming off a 9-18 campaign and return only
one of their top eight scorers from last season.
Morgan Smith, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, averaged 7.3 points and
2.7 rebounds last in 2003-04 for the NCAA Division II Golden Eagles.
Former Costa Mesa High standout David Conte, who started five
games for the Golden Eagles as a freshman last season, is no longer
with the program.
UCI defeated Cal State Los Angeles, 75-49, in an exhibition game
last season.
The Anteaters are scheduled to open the regular season Nov. 19 at
home against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
