UCI gets final tuneup

The UC Irvine men’s basketball team concludes its exhibition schedule

against Cal State Los Angeles tonight at 7:05 at the Bren Events

Center.

The Anteaters defeated visiting Simon Fraser, 84-62, in their

exhibition opener Saturday.

In that game, UCI was paced by junior guard Jeff Gloger, who

scored 22 points, including 9-of-9 shooting from the field, and

collected 13 rebounds.

Junior Ross Schraeder had 16 points, while senior Greg Ethington

added 14 for Coach Pat Douglass’ Anteaters.

Junior transfer Aaron Fitzgerald, a point guard, had nine assists

against the NAIA school from British Columbia, Canada.

Tonight’s visitors are coming off a 9-18 campaign and return only

one of their top eight scorers from last season.

Morgan Smith, a 6-foot-7 senior forward, averaged 7.3 points and

2.7 rebounds last in 2003-04 for the NCAA Division II Golden Eagles.

Former Costa Mesa High standout David Conte, who started five

games for the Golden Eagles as a freshman last season, is no longer

with the program.

UCI defeated Cal State Los Angeles, 75-49, in an exhibition game

last season.

The Anteaters are scheduled to open the regular season Nov. 19 at

home against Cal State Dominguez Hills.
