Corona del Mar resident Andrew Howard shot a 72-hole total of 310

(76-79-79-76), but his bid to reach the Champions Tour came to an end

after the second stage of qualifying at the Magnolia Course in Lake

Buena Vista, Fla.

Only 18 golfers advanced from Magnolia, one of four qualifying

sites, to the national finals. Four sites nationwide hosted

qualifying rounds with 325 golfers vying for 91 spots into the national finals.

Lon Hinkle took top honors at Magnolia with a 4-under-par 284

(73-68-70-73).

Former UC Irvine golfer Mike Lavery will begin the second stage of

the PGA Tour’s Q-School next week after the fields for the six sites

were posted on the tour’s website last week.

Lavery, 23, will be one of the 78 golfers teeing up at the Oak

Valley Golf Club in Beaumont Nov. 17-20 for a shot at securing a spot

into the finals, scheduled at the PGA West Stadium Course and

Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta Dec. 1-6.

Lavery advanced past the first stage in his inaugural attempt when

he finished tied for 17th following the 72-hole first stage at the

Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta.

Lavery shot a four-round total of 293 (67-80-70-76).

Golfers will begin competition today through Saturday at

Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas, and the Hombre City Golf Club

in Panama City, Fla.

Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas, St. Johns Golf & Country

Club in St. Augustine, Fla., and the Black Horse Course in Seaside,

Calif., will join Oak Valley as qualifying sites Nov. 17-20.
