Officer injured while chasing suspect
An officer was injured while chasing a skateboarder who was
speeding downhill.
Police said Patricia Bishop, 39, of Laguna Niguel, was riding on a
skateboard around 10:20 a.m. Monday, and was traveling downhill on
Aliso Circle at speeds between 25 and 30 mph toward on-coming
traffic.
According to police, the suspect was barely able to control her
skateboard.
The police officer made a traffic stop, and during the
conversation with the suspect, the suspect said “I don’t need this,”
and ran off, said Sgt. Lenyi of the Laguna Beach Police Department.
According to police, the officer then pursued the suspect on foot,
following her as she ran onto Aliso Beach and started running over
the rocks at the waterline.
The suspect ran to the Camel Point area where another police
officer was waiting for her, said police. “She started to scale the
cliff below homes in the Camel Point area,” said Sgt. Lenyi.
Bishop was then arrested by a third officer, said police.
During the chase, “a police officer involved in the foot pursuit
lost his footing on the cliff and fell,” said Sgt. Lenyi.
Police Officer Bob VanGorder, suffered several scrapes and bruises
and a fractured rib, said Lenyi. According to police, VanGorder was
hospitalized and released.
When the suspect was caught, police said they searched her purse
and found methamphetamine. Bishop was charged with resisting arrest
and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Police seek suspect in drug arrest
Police serving an arrest warrant at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at a
residence in the 2500 block of Bonita Way, said they found heroin and
200 syringes.
Tyler Barnett, 29, of Laguna Beach, refused to come to the door
when officers attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant, police
said.
Police said the officers forced entry into the residence and the
suspect then fled through second story window. Sgt. Darin Lenyi, of
the Laguna Beach Police Department said there were syringes
containing heroin and 200 empty syringes in plain sight.
A second occupant, Briana Lawrence, 24, of Lake Forest, was
arrested for being in a location with a controlled substance, said
police.
Police officers chased Barnett on foot. Lenyi said police are
still looking for him.
The suspect was described by police as a white man, about 5-feet,
9-inches tall and 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. If you
