Man robbed after late-night ride
A Huntington Beach man was robbed while giving a ride to a
stranger around 3 a.m. on Saturday, police said.
The 18-year-old man, whose name is not being released, was
approached by the stranger at a convenience store in the 15000 block
of Goldenwest Street, said police.
According to police, the male suspect asked for a ride in a
friendly manner.
The victim agreed to give the man a ride. “He was trying to be
helpful,” Huntington Beach Sgt. Dave Bunetta said.
The victim drove the suspect to the area of McFadden and
Goldenwest, police said.
“The suspect threatened to crush his skull if he didn’t give him
his wallet and money,” Bunetta added.
According to police, the suspect’s threats were verbal and no
weapons were used.
“The victim complied because he was in fear,” Bunetta said.
Police said the suspect then exited the vehicle with the victim’s
wallet, ID, credit cards and an unknown amount of cash.
“The suspect met up with a vehicle who had possibly followed them
from the 7-11 location,” said Bunetta.
The vehicle was described by police as a four-door gold Saturn
with a woman in the driver’s seat. The suspect got in the Saturn and
the vehicle drove off in an unknown direction, Bunetta said.
