Breakers regroup, defeat University

Coming off an upset loss to Tesoro High, the Laguna Beach High girls

tennis team regrouped Tuesday to defeat visiting University, 11-7, in

Pacific Coast League action.

Kellie Ammerman and Lauren Thigpen earned sweeps for Laguna at the

top two singles posts.

The win moved Laguna to 2-1 in league and 9-2, overall.

The Breakers had just endured a 10-8 defeat at Tesoro.

Claire Rietsch swept at No. 1 singles for Laguna and No. 1 doubles

Katie Ochwat and Correy Miller and Ammerman and Thigpen, teaming at

No. 2 doubles, won two of three.

Laguna stepped out of Pacific Coast League play to hand Edison a

12-6 loss in a nonleague match.

Lorren Butterwick, Katie Ochwat and Ammerman swept in singles

play.

In girls’ volleyball Tuesday, Laguna was surprised by host Tesoro,

25-19, 15-14, 25-17, in Pacific Coast League play.

Paige Obradovich came up with 21 assists and Stephanie Darnall had

16 kills for the Breakers, who slipped to 2-1 in league.

Laguna previously had defeated host Calvary Chapel, 25-15, 25-17,

25-16.

In boys’ water polo, Laguna routed visiting Santa Margarita, 12-4,

in a nonleague match.

Mike Dick and Trevor Frimond each scored three goals to pace the

Breakers.

Jeremy Frimond, Ryan Fair and Cameron Brinkman each scored twice

to complete Laguna’s scoring.

In league play, Laguna was edged by host Northwood, 7-6.

Jeremy Frimond and Peter Phelps each scored twice to lead Laguna

and Fair and Trevor Frimond each posted a goal.

In girls’ golf, Laguna suffered a 227-268 setback to visiting

University at Aliso Viejo Golf Course.
