Ganahl Lumber pulls upset of Sandpiper

Ganahl Lumber knocked Sandpiper from the ranks of the unbeaten and in
the process kept its postseason hopes alive with a 3-2 Tuesday League
play in the city of Laguna Beach Summer 16-inch Slow Pitch Softball
action.
Lumber got the win on the strength of Brett Stevens’ RBI single
which scored Robert Ponce in the second inning, and a solo home run
by Robert Bonn in the fourth inning and a solo shot in the fifth by
Greg Wallace.
Wallace’s homer broke a 2-2 tie.
Teo Moore and Ryan Neptune each hit a solo home run for regular
season champion Sandpiper, which fell to 8-1.
In other Tuesday League games:
Good, Bad and Ugly 7, Used Cars 4
Adam Aardahl singled three times in the leadoff spot as Good, Bad
and Ugly upended Used Cars.
The win set up a showdown between Good, Bad and Ugly and Ganahl
Lumber this week in a game that will determine the team to claim the
league’s final postseason playoff spot.
Good, Bad and Ugly also had outstanding hitting performances from
Anthony Bruno with a double and pair of singles and Garrick Gallardo
who recorded a second inning, two-run home run.
Micah Stovall hit a solo homer in the first inning and Mike
McKenzie hit a three-run homer in the third frame to lead Used Cars
hitters.
In Wednesday League play:
Island Shade 7, Arborists 4
Island Shade took over sole possession of second-place by topping
the Arborists.
Tom Taylor knocked in three runs with a home run and single and
Coby Naess drove in three runs behind a home run in the fifth inning
that broke a 3-3 tie and proved to be the difference in the game.
Jim Panehill doubled twice and A.J. Voto and Cary Majerius each
had two singles for the Arborists.
In Thursday League play:
League co-leaders Chico’s Bail Bonds and Team Hobie each claimed
their seventh victories of the season to qualify for the upcoming
postseason playoffs.
Team Hobie 14, Arbitech 12
Team Hobie won the game on Paul Corey’s three-run homer in the
final inning.
Earlier, Corey hit a two-RBI fifth inning home run, singled to
accounted for five of Team Hobie’s five runs.
Johnny Collins belted a three-run homer and Rich Collins, Brandon
Jessie and Austin Schwanar each hit three singles for the winners.
Arbitech was led offensively by Ryan Neptune who hit a pair of
homers, singled twice and racked up seven RBIs, Manny Sanchez with a
home run, three singles and two RBIs and Will Rooney and Lloyd
Seeley, each of whom had three hits.
