Former Costa Mesa High boys athletic director and head football coach
Dave Perkins is in the process of being hired as an assistant coach
with Mater Dei High freshman team, Monarchs Coach Bruce Rollinson
confirmed Thursday.
Rollinson said Perkins is filling out the necessary paper work to
become a walk-on assistant.
“Ideally, we would like to have him as an outside linebacker and
tight end coach,” Rollinson said.
Perkins led the Mustangs to a 20-12 record during his three years
at the helm, including a Golden West League title in 2002. He was
fired July 23 over what he said was a misunderstanding involving
funds from a summer football camp.
He accumulated a 17-13-1 record as Estancia’s head coach from
1998-2000 before taking charge of the Mesa program.
