* Steve Rhorer (senior champion) -- Shot a 6-under-par 282 to win
senior masters, a tournament that attracts international players 55
and older, by one stroke in April. Teamed with Pete Daley, a
four-time Mesa Verde men’s champion, to claim the Southern California
Golf Association’s Four-Ball Match Play championship following a 4

Murrieta Thursday at the SCGA Golf Course in Murrieta.
* Dave Irwin (men’s champion) -- Joined Rhorer and Daley as the
only golfers in Mesa Verde’s 45-year history to hold the senior and
men’s championships at the same time when he won the men’s
championship last August. Makes his Jones Cup debut.
* Akemi Khaiat (ladies champion) -- Born in Tokyo, she has claimed
the last three Mesa Verde Country Club women’s titles and was a
co-captain on the Japanese national team in 1998 when it competed in
the World Amateur championship in Santiago, Chile. Finished second by
two strokes to Marianne Towersey in last year’s Tea Cup Classic.
* Tom Sargent (head pro) -- Director for PGA sections in Southern
