Taylor King and Pablo Hernandez, two key figures on the Laguna Beach
High boys’ soccer team, earned All-Pacific Coast League status,
Breakers Coach Andy Thomas announced Monday.
King was a first-team all-league selection.
Hernandez was named to the second-team.
Both are seniors.
King finished his high school career by scoring a hat trick in a
4-3 victory against University in February.
“Taylor finished the year with an unbelievable performance,”
Thomas said. “He had a fantastic season, and I’m surprised that all
the top Division I soccer programs are not fighting over him.”
King also was named by his Laguna teammates as team MVP for year.
Hernandez also had a standout year, Thomas said.
“Pablo would have made first-team, but due to our league
positioning, we only got one vote for first-team,” Thomas said.
“Pablo has had a brilliant high school career. He was a major
reason we won a state championship two years ago, and it looks like
he is on his way to a college career. His footwork skills are, at
times, breathtaking.”
The CIF-Southern Section office released on Monday its official
list for the Division II girls’ water polo team, which included four
Laguna players.
The Pacific Coast League placed 13 athletes on the three teams --
the most of any Division II league.
In addition, the league was distinguished as having the player and
coach of the year.
