Pacific blanks 3 foes

The Pacific Soccer Club girls under-12 team, which trains in Corona
del Mar, shut out all three opponents in the opening rounds of State
Cup play Feb. 7-8 in Lancaster.
The team was one of only three squads to record three shutouts in
the opening rounds.
Pacific defeated Fullerton’s FRYSC Spirit, 1-0, in the third game,
on Melissa Hancock’s goal off an assist from Natalie Argueta.
Hancock assisted on Argueta’s goal in a 2-0 victory over San
Diego’s Alliance. Pacific blanked Santa Anita, 2-0.
Jackie Dion added a goal and Hancock scored three in three games.
Paige Sigband added an assist.
Alexandra Reinach, Taylor Nicolosi, Claire Eadington, Maiquel
McLeish and Dion controlled the midfield while defenders Azadeh
Nazemi, Brynn Johnson, Brooke Nelson and Sigband snuffed opponents’
attacks.
Goalkeeper Corey Cano stopped nine shots and has 13 shutouts this season.
Pacific travels to Bakersfield for the round of 32 and subsequent
matches.
In AYSO Region 57 action:
* The Corona del Mar boys under-10 gold all-stars went 2-0 with
victories over Yorba Linda (6-1) and South Irvine (3-2) Jan. 24.
J.D. Dawn led the offense against Yorba Linda with two goals while
Matthew Francini, Cole Gennrich, David Moore and Zach Murtaugh added
one apiece.
Taylor Epp was strong in goal.
CdM jumped to a 2-0 lead against South Irvine on goals from Cort
Hastings and Francini. Dawn played well at sweeper and added the
game-winning goal.
