Anteater women swim to victory at relays

The UC Irvine women’s swim team won the UC Irvine/Country Inns &
Suites Invitational relay meet Sunday at the Anteater Aquatics
Complex.
The Anteater women won all 10 relay events, scoring 409 points to
best runner-up Nebraska by 41.
The UCI men won 7 of 10 relay events, but still finished 72 points
ahead of team champion Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, which posted 494.
Following UCI and Nebraska in the women’s tema standings were San
Diego State (358), Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (192),
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (121), Pepperdine (65) and La Verne (seven).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and La Verne were third and fourth,
respctively, in the men’s team standings.
The Anteaters will return to the pool Friday, when they play host
to Utah in a nonconference dual meet at noon.
Palchikoff produces
* BASEBALL: Corona del Mar High senior outfielder Nick Palchikoff,
a first-team All-Pacific Coast League and Newport-Mesa Dream Team
selection in baseball last spring, had one hit, two RBIs and scored
two runs Sunday to help a team of Orange County All-Stars tie a team
from Los Angeles County in the Southern California Cup at Brea Olinda
High.
He drove in a run with a single up the middle and plated another
with a bases-loaded walk.
Palchikoff, who hit .373 with four homers and 19 RBIs for the
Pacific Coast League champion Sea Kings last season, also played in
wins over Riverside (Friday) and San Diego (Saturday). He started two
games in right field and another in center.
Sailors’ Jorth shines
* WATER POLO: Newport Harbor High sophomore Clay Jorth, playing
for the United States cadet water polo team, scored two goals to help
the Americans defeat the Canada B team, 17-3, Saturday at the USA
Water Polo National Aquatic Center in Los Alamitos.
He added one goal in a 17-3 win Sunday over Canada’s A team.
