Sage Hill trio honores
Sage Hill School football coach Tom Monarch often talked about the
bright future the Lightning has ahead even while the team struggled
to a 1-8 finish this season. That future was evident when the
All-Academy League team was announced as the Lightning placed two
freshmen and a sophomore on the second team.
Three Sage Hill players were named to the first team, which was
dominated by league champion St. Margaret’s and runner-up Capistrano
Valley Christian. Senior running back and defensive back Eddie Huang,
and senior linemen and linebackers Peter Haderlein and Marcel Sohl
were the Lightning’s three representatives on the 22-man first team.
Among the 15 players awarded second-team honors were Sage Hill
freshman quarterback Braden Ross and freshman receiver and linebacker
Don Ayres.
Joining those two on the second team were sophomore lineman Morgan
Brief, senior fullback Ray Lim and junior kicker Amy Werblin.
Brethren Christian’s Denny Warden was named Offensive Player of
the Year, while Kelly Ryan of Capistrano Valley Christian and Andy
Morrison from St. Margaret’s shared Defensive Player of the Year
honors.
