This season, remember Reading by 9

READING BY 9: The Rotary Clubs of Newport-Balboa, Newport-Irvine
and Newport Beach Sunrise are offering to match up to $2,500 in
contributions from Daily Pilot readers as we seek to buy needed
library books for Pomona, Whittier and Wilson elementary schools in
Costa Mesa, according to Roger McGonegal, Newport-Balboa president.
The Daily Pilot-Rotary Club Reading by 9 fund-raising drive over
the past several years has provided some 16,000 reading books for the
three schools. More are needed if limited-English-speaking children
are to master the language.
Your $10 donation will be matched by the Rotary clubs to buy 11
reading books. A $25 donation will be matched to buy 30 books, a $50
donation will be matched to buy 58 books, and so on.
Your tax deductible donation to buy Reading by 9 books can be made
payable and mailed to Rotary District 5320 Foundation, c/o Daily
Pilot, 330 W. Bay St., Costa Mesa, CA 92627.
Make your investment and watch the dividends grow! Make a
difference in the life of a child. Make your tax-deductible
contribution before the end of the year!
TOY DRIVE: The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club in conjunction
with the Orange County Model Engineers will conduct a toy drive on
Dec. 21 at the Fairview Park rail system. They will be collecting
toys to donate to several local groups. The Lions will also be
serving hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, etc. to help raise funds for
future programs. And, Santa Claus will be there. The public is
invited. Anyone needing more details can contact club President Mike
Scheafer at (714) 435-0300.
