IRVINE -- Newport Harbor High will be the No. 2 representative
from the Sea View League in the CIF Southern Section Division VI
football playoffs, following the results of a coin flip held Friday
at Irvine High to break a three-way tie for second.
The Sailors (7-3, 3-2 in league) dropped into the second-place
deadlock after falling to league-champion Foothill, 45-21, Thursday
night.
Laguna Hills (6-4, 3-2), which defeated Irvine (6-4, 3-2)
Thursday, will go as the league’s No. 3 representative and Irvine,
which defeated both Foothill and Newport Harbor, will be forced to
compete for the division’s lone at-large berth.
Losses to Aliso Niguel and Laguna Hills turned Irvine’s
championship hopes upside down.
As a second-place entry, Newport Harbor may earn a home game in
the first round. Football playoff pairings will be announced Sunday
at the Southern Section office in Los Alamitos.
