Corona del Mar High’s girls tennis team dealt Sea View League foe
University a 10-8 loss Tuesday, dropping the Trojans (and Laguna
Beach) a full match behind the Sea Kings in the race for the Pacific
Coast League championship.
Taylynn Snyder was the focal point with her 6-4 victory over
University’s Aimee Kim, avenging a first-round loss, individually,
and on a team basis.
“She really played well,” said CdM Coach Andy Stewart, who got
sweeps from two doubles teams -- Brittany Holland and Juliette Mutzke
and the Yelsey sisters, Anne and Rachel.
CdM, with Calvary Chapel and Northwood left on the schedule, is
now 12-3, 7-1 in the PCL.

Newport Harbor handles Hawks, 11-7
Newport Harbor High’s girls tennis team received a strong
performance from its No. 1 doubles team of Diana Khoury and A.J.
Olson and went on to defeat Laguna Hills, 11-7, in a Sea View League
match Tuesday at Laguna Hills High.
Khoury and Olson didn’t lose a game in sweeping three sets and
Newport (10-6, 7-1 in league, and Krista McIntosh, Vanessa Dunlap and
Bonnie Adams each won two of three sets in singles.
Newport plays away at Corona del Mar, No. 7 in CIF Southern
Section Division I, today at 3:15 p.m. before facing Woodbridge,
ranked No. 5 in CIF Division I, at home Thursday.

Champion Costa Mesa rolls on, 10-8
Costa Mesa High’s league champion girls tennis team continued its
strong play heading into Golden West League finals with a 10-8
victory over Santa Ana Tuesday, Santa Ana’s first home loss of the
season.
Hilary Havens won her three sets, 6-0, and Mesa’s No. 1 doubles
team of Brenda Tran and Laura Fais won all three sets, 7-5, for the
Mustangs, 11-5, 11-1 in league.
Chi Doan and Minh-Thy Pham won two of three sets at No. 2 doubles
and Huong Nguyen won two of three sets at No. 2 singles.
Costa Mesa now sets its sights on league finals Monday through
Wednesday.
“This is great,” said Costa Mesa Coach Joe Havens. “We’ve had
three incredibly hard matches against Estancia, Westminster and Santa
Ana and won them all so it’s a great momentum boost going into CIF.”

Sage Hill wins, 16-2, at Oxford Academy
Sage Hill’s Lightning was a 16-2 winner over Oxford Academy in
Cypress Tuesday, improving to 12-3, 9-2 in the Academy League.
The fourth-ranked Lightning (CIF Division V) was led by its
freshmen trio of Katie McKitterick, Kellie Ammerman and Paige Fullmer
in singles with all three sweeping to victory.
McKitterick’s was most impressive, racking up scores of 6-2, 6-0,
6-0.
Oxford falls to 10-9, 5-6.
