Utah tops UCI

UC Irvine freshman Lara Bjargardottir and sophomore Molly Donelan
broke school records, but the Anteaters women’s swimming and diving
team, as well as the men’s squad, lost to visiting Utah Friday. The
meet was the season-opening nonconference dual for the Anteaters.
Bjargardottir set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle with a
time of 1:52.97, and she also won the 200 individual medley in
2:08.81. Donelan broke a 22-year-old school record with a time of
2:08.31 in the 200 butterfly. The Utah women won, 165.5-132.5.
In the men’s 100 backstroke, UCI sophomore Gonny Shimura set a
meet record with his winning time of 52.04. Shimura also claimed
victory in the 200 back (1:55.19). The Utah men won, 168-130.
The Anteaters will be host to the Big West Shootout Nov. 1 and
Nov. 2.
