* STATE BUDGET CRISIS:
“We’re going to have a big deficit next year, because the governor
didn’t deal with it this year. When what’s coming in is less than
what’s going out, don’t increase the rent. Don’t go out to dinner
more often.” Campbell supports a state budget amendment that would
restrict state spending to no more that the growth rate for household
incomes.
* FUNDING FOR EDUCATION:
“With the education budget, we have a lot of what they call
‘categorical programs.’ Those don’t make a lot of sense to me. The
schools could do with the money they have, if the money isn’t
restricted.” Campbell supports allocating funding to school districts
in one lump sum.
* RENEGOTIATING WITH POWER GENERATORS:
“These guys are not going to renegotiate in the face of a market
that is going to punish them. We need to encourage more sources for
building power.” Campbell said he supports nuclear, hydroelectric and
other “alternative” ways to bring more power online.
* CENTERLINE RAIL SYSTEM:
“Orange County is very badly suited to light rail. It’s
decentralized; there is no center in Orange County. Secondly, it’s
very spread out. You need a car to get you where you want to go.”
* THE STATE’S ECONOMY:
“I am worried about what the policies the state has enacted are
doing to jobs and the economy. It’s driving a lot of good jobs and
growth out of the state.”
