Penalty kick wins it for the Silver Bullets

Camden Nicholson’s second goal of the game, coming on a penalty
kick, proved the difference as the Silver Bullets came back from a
2-1 deficit to beat the Fire Powers, 3-2, in an AYSO Region 57 Boys
under-12 soccer game.
Ori Tabak’s goal tied the game at 2 before Nicholson scored the
game-winner.
The Fire Powers took a 2-1 lead in the third quarter when the
Silver Bullets were down one player, but the Silver Bullets kept it
close from the solid play of goalie Connor Benvenuti, Scott
Berkhausen and Alex Mainthow.
The Silver Bullet offense was also led by Tommy Bangert and Jamie
Heinecke. Kevin Corrigan made several kicks to advance the ball.
Jonathan Jaffee, Kumi Chehabi and Anthony Francisco also contributed
to the win.
In Girls under-12 action:
* Patriots 4, Fighting Irish 1
Two goals from Alexa Cohen and one each from A.J. Rome and Kathryn
Conner led the Patriots to a three-goal win. McKenna Caskey made
three saves in goal for the Patriots as Marissa Morrill, Amanda
Garrett, Jackie Crossen, Cali Conti, Casey Goldberg, Tess Crane and
defenders Alix and Arianna Condon made solid passes.
Karly Ogden scored the Irish goal on an assist from Rebecca Beyer.
In Girls under-11 play:
* Corona del Mar Hotspurs 1, North Irvine Blue Crush 1
Sydney Brombal scored the lone goal for the Hotspurs as defense
prevailed in this matchup.
Saves by goalkeeper Sarah Folks and defense from Katie Deverian,
Kelly Feeley, Laura Fleming, Nikki Flinn, Hanna Stuart, Isa-Maria
Taskinen and Kyla Winkle kept the Blue Crush at-bay. Strong offensive
push for the Hotspurs was provided by Bayli Stefl, Maddie Simmonds
and Hayley Raguse.
In Girls under-10 action:
* Dragonslayers 3, Mean Green Fighting Machine 1
Megan Kim scored two goals and Katelyn Baker scored the final goal
25 feet out off a corner kick from Kim to seal the win for the
Dragonslayers.
Aurora Kaye assisted on Kim’s decisive second goal. Sydney Raguse,
Marissa Hergott and Baker played steady defense for the
Dragonslayers.
Katie Bethel, Jaden Heineckle, Annie Tomlin and Haley Womack made
sharp passes.
* Ava Nelson scored three goals for the Tidal Waves Saturday as
Sophia Evans and Logan Warwick controlled the midfield. Jasmine
O’Hea, Bella Gallardo, Becky Gula and Charlotte Belling thwarted many
offensive attacks with strong defense.
Goalkeeper Kasey Thompson made several saves while Audrey Bruscia
returned to the game with a flourish after taking a shot to her
stomach.
In Boys under-10 play:
* Patriots 3, Red Knights 0
Donald Dalton scored his second consecutive hat trick in the
Patriots’ shutout. Hector Marino set up Dalton’s two second-half
goals as Max Carpenter recorded the shutout in goal. He was helped by
defense from Patrick Pearson, Evan Harr, Christian Ball and Daniel
Hohl.
Adam Bronfin, Jeremy Fox, Kevin Hoffman and Grady Howe fought off
the Red Knights.
* Team USA 3, Wolfpack 1
After spotting the Wolfpack a 1-0 lead, Team USA rebounded to
score three unanswered goals to win by two goals.
Mason Case scored first for Team USA late in the second period on
a shot from the right side with assists from Ryan Gooding and Michael
Ayzin as Jack Gorab scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from
Michael Dahl.
Team USA added to their lead late in the fourth period as Louis
Shelden knocked in a rebound.
The victors stiffened their defense in the second half led by
Matthew Larson, Nicholas Molinaro, Evan Ehrenberg and goalkeeper
Clark Cashion.
* The Green Gators showed their strength Saturday, led by captain
Grant Wysopal and co-captain Connor Maloney in AYSO Region 57 soccer
boys under-10 play.
Michael Haeri scored on a pass from Aaron Schott to take an early
1-0 lead. The Gators couldn’t hold the lead but still played strong
for fourth quarters.
