An Italian experience

Suzie Harrison

Her suitcases were packed and she was ready to hit the road to

Italy to fulfill one of her passions.

Anne England loves to teach and she has been invited to Italy to

teach printmaking to students. She’ll also be teaching watercolor.

“Teaching -- there is a real joy to me in teaching people and

watching them respond,” England said. “It’s a real joyous thing. It

fills me with joy.”

This is her second summer teaching there. She will go for her

second spring in 2003.

Laguna artist Caroline Zimmerman, England’s close friend, was the

person who told England about the program looking for talented

artists to teach their medium.

“We’ve shared a cancer bond. We’re very close,” England said.

“First I’ll be in the Ferragamo’s Estate in Il Borro -- a medieval

village that they’ve restored. It’s really beautiful.

“I am looking forward to the Tuscan sunsets, revisiting people and

places that I love, places I’m familiar with, and the camaraderie I

share with my students.”

I’ve been teaching for a long time,” England said. “I love to see

people learning and responding. I know it’s going to help them and I

like to give what I have to offer.”

She said that her students respond in different ways and watching

them grow in their art is incredible.

England, who will be in Italy through the middle of October and

said that after teaching she will be going to Rome for a little more
