Jr. All-American Football gathered Saturday at Marina High to take
part in Opening Day ceremonies for the league’s 2002 fall season.
Booths with food and games created a festive atmosphere, but the
main event was several scrimmages featuring teams from the league’s
various divisions.
In the Jr. Clinic Division, the Huntington Beach Dolphins and the
Compton Titans went head-to-head in an 1 1/2 hour scrimmage. Donald
Rice led the Jr. Clinic Dolphins on defense, and Brandon Wooten threw
a 40-yard touchdown pass.
Compton came up with several big plays on offense during the
scrimmage.
“I told our kids to get ready to work hard at practice this week.
We have a lot of work to do,” coach Mark Nakashima said.
His Jr. Clinic Dolphins, as well as the other Dolphin teams, will
continue practice through the first week in September in preparation
for the official season opener on Sept. 7.
