Riptide 14s in World Series

The Pacific Coast Girls Fastpitch 14-and-under softball team

Riptide competes in the Triple Crown World Series Aug. 6-11, starting

with Tuesday’s skills contest, which involves speed/target throw,

slickest infield/round the horn, baserunning and longball hitting,

concluded with the event’s opening ceremonies.

The first pool game is Wednesday before a double-elimination

format for the top three teams in each pool. Others who advance are

in a single-elimination situation. Over 40 teams are involved.

The Newport Beach Riptide qualified with a third-place finish at a

qualifying tournament at its home field, Bonita Creek, Feb. 9.

The Riptide consists of Julianne Bass, Markie Bigenheimer, Ally

Cano, Gina Catalano, Kelsey Ferguson, Ashley Gleason, Sasha Grumman,

Tori Harrison, Christine Kulick, Heather Lohrman, Jenny Tompkins and

Sara Zieger. They’re coached by Barry Grumman, Joe Gleason and August

Kulick.
