CORONA DEL MAR - The third annual Fall Baseball Academy, for
players ages 10-14, is scheduled Sept. 9 through Nov. 11 at Corona del Mar High.
Participants, limited to the first 50 registrants and excluding
players entering the ninth grade, will receive instruction from former
major leaguer Jeff Gardner, CdM varsity coach John Emme and CdM varsity
pitching coach Steve Foreman Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Instruction will emphasize the fundamentals of hitting, pitching and
fielding, as well as provide insights into the mental aspects of the game
and proper conduct on the field.
For a fee of $450, players will receive a Sea King hat, a T-shirt and
a personalized videotape, reviewed by coaches, which will illustrate
players strengths and weaknesses.
The camp will include intrasquad games, as well as a parent-player
clinic in which parents can learn drills and teaching activities that may
be conducted at home.
Gardner played with the San Diego Padres, New York Mets and Montreal
Expos and is currently the Manager of the Padres’ short-season Class-A
Eugene Emeralds. He was a former standout at Estancia High and Orange
Coast College.
Emme, a former pitcher at UC Davis, has guided CdM to the CIF Southern
Section Playoffs each of the last five seasons, including a Division IV
championship in 1999.
Foreman, who played collegiately at BYU, has been Emme’s pitching
coach the last five seasons.
In addition, high school, community college, college and professional
players will act as guest instructors.
For information, phone Emme at (714) 424-7575 ext. 4002.
