Youth Baseball: Another All-Star weekend

All-Star frenzy is sweeping the Newport-Mesa area for the second
weekend in a row, as some teams are just beginning their All-Star games,
while other teams play in their second games.
Both Costa Mesa American and National Little League’s 9- and
-10-year-old and Major All-Star teams open the double-elimination
District 62 All-Star play today at two sites.
The Costa Mesa National Major All-Stars play Westminster at 9 a.m. at
Wardlow Park in Huntington Beach, while the National 9- and -10-year-olds
play Fountain Valley at noon at the same site.
Costa Mesa American Majors face Ocean View at 9 a.m. at Le Bard Park
in Huntington Beach as the American 9- and -10-year-olds play at noon at
the same site.
Newport Beach Little League Major National All-Stars will play their
second game in the District 55 All-Star Tournament, when they face Rancho
Santa Margarita at 3 p.m. at Hicks Canyon Park in Irvine. Newport
defeated Rancho Mission Viejo, 3-0, Monday in first-round action of the
double-elimination tournament as Chris Rosen pitched a complete game
shutout while also smashing a two-run home run in the win.
Today also offers a chance to see Newport Beach’s 9- and -10-year-old
National All-Stars continue battling in the District 55 Tournament as
they face North Mission Viejo at noon at the La Paz Sports Park in Laguna
Niguel.Newport defeated South Mission Viejo, 14-4, Sunday in the opening
round, turning a 6-4-3 double play, and having two players tag out two
would-be Mission Viejo runners trying to score on consecutive batters in
the first inning.
