Football: Chai, a Shrine All-Star
WALNUT - Robert Chai, a former Newport Harbor High football
standout, will play for the South in the Shrine All-Star game July 13, at
5 p.m. at Mt. San Antonio College.
Chai, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound offensive tackle who will play for UCLA in
the fall, earned All-CIF honors his final two years at Newport.
The soft-spoken big man, who went wild on the field, was referred to
as the most dominating lineman along Newport’s offensive front last fall,
by Coach Jeff Brinkley.
As a Shrine All-Star, Chai will engage in several activites throughout
the week leading up to the game. Aside from team photos and practices,
Chai and the rest of the all-stars will meet former NFL players. There is
also a banquet, July 12, that will be held in the all-stars’ honor.
Before the banquet, the players will have a chance to tour the Shrine
Auditorium, site of the Emmys.
