A Huntington Beach man was arrested Friday on suspicion of attempted

armed robbery after a high-speed car chase that ended in Irvine.

Police allege that Kenneth Sean Anderson, 38, attempted to rob three

liquor stores at knifepoint on Monday, June 17.

On the night of June 17 police allege Anderson entered a Fountain

Valley liquor store and attempted to rob it at knifepoint. He was

unsuccessful and fled the scene before police arrived. That same night

Anderson entered another Fountain Valley liquor store intending to rob

it, police said. He was again unsuccessful in his robbery attempt.

Police found Anderson’s wallet at the second liquor store.

Later that night, police say Anderson entered a third liquor store,

this time in Huntington Beach. Police say Anderson again attempted a

robbery at knifepoint.

On Friday, at about 10:30 a.m., Huntington Beach Police officers

responded to a call of a suspicious man sitting in a white Ford Escort at

the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Adams Avenue.

Officers approached Anderson at the intersection and after questioning

him, concluded that he was not involved in any illegal activity. He was

released after a warrant check found that he was not wanted in connection

with any other crimes.

But, 10 minutes after he was released, officers learned that Anderson

was wanted for questioning in connection with the three attempted

robberies.

Police returned to the intersection and detained Anderson, said

Huntington Beach Police Sgt. Gary Meza.

Anderson bit an officer on the arm as he attempted to place him under

arrest then fled southbound on Beach Boulevard. Police officers chased

Anderson down Beach Boulevard and onto Pacific Coast Highway.

The chase eventually made its way up Jamboree Road and to Irvine where

officers brought Anderson’s car to a stop by ramming into it near a

construction site at Laguna Canyon Road and the San Diego Freeway.

Anderson fled on foot into the construction site where he was stopped

by an Irvine Police Department K9 unit. A struggle ensued with first the

dog, then Huntington Beach officers who eventually took him into custody,

Meza said.

Both Anderson and the police officers received some minor injuries

during the struggle. All were treated an released from Huntington Beach

Hospital.

No weapons were found in Anderson’s car, Meza said.He is awaiting

arraignment and is being held at the Huntington Beach City Jail on

$50,000 bail.
