A car fire Monday morning at the intersection of Newport Boulevard and
Bay Street in Costa Mesa caused a brief disruption as it backed up
traffic and spewed heavy smoke into the air.
The owners of the car were driving it back from the repair shop after
getting it fixed about 10:10 a.m., said Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Marty
Huguenin.
“They suddenly saw smoke coming from the engine under the hood,” he
said.
Huguenin said people from a nearby auto shop helped put out the fire
using extinguishers.
“But there was still a lot of smoking parts when we got there,” he
said.
No one was hurt in the incident.
