Senior outfielder Chad Chop and Marcus Harris garnered player and
pitcher of the week honors in NAIA Region II.
Chop, a Santa Ana resident, had a monstrous week at the plate, going
12 for 22 (.545), with seven runs, three home runs and 14 RBIs to help
the Lions to four wins, three in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Chop finished 5 for 8, with eight RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of
Biola Saturday. Chop belted a solo shot in the opening game and a grand
slam in the nightcap.
With the weekend sweep, Vanguard moves within one win of securing a
spot in the upcoming NAIA Region II Tournament May 7-10.
Harris went the distance, striking out three, scattering 13 hits and
allowing five runs in the 7-6 victory over Biola in the first game of the
doubleheader.
The sophomore right-hander pitched a scoreless inning in the Lions’
6-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton, ranked No. 18 in the latest Baseball
America poll released Monday.
