Women’s water polo: UCI women ninth

Four UC Irvine players scored two goals apiece to lead the Anteater
women’s water polo team to a 9-7 victory over Santa Barbara in the
ninth-place game of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship
tournament Sunday at USC’s McDonald’s Swim Stadium.
Sophomores Melissa Fernandez, Erica Horman, Lauren Volcan and Rebecca
Wedemeyer each scored twice for the Anteaters, who improved to 16-22.
Senior Nerissa Reidenbaugh scored the other goal and sophomore goalie
Sunceray Chamblee made seven saves for the winners.
The two teams played even in the first, third and fourth quarters, but
UCI outscored the Gauchos, 4-2, in the second period.
Mary Blumbert led UCSB (17-17) with four goals.
