Readers Respond -- OCC swap meet should remain open

I believe the swap meet should continue both on Saturdays and Sundays
at Orange Coast College (OCC swap meet vendors plead to City Council,”
April 17). Closing it down has a negative impact on our community in
three ways:
1. Limiting consumers choices to find bargain prices provided by the
swap meet;
2. Loss of jobs for vendors and others working at or near the swap
meet location;
3. No additional funding provided to OCC.

Just another example of the city trying to fix something that isn’t
broken. The city should leave the swap meet alone. It is providing a
needed service and a source of income for hard-working people.

I believe the OCC swap meet should be allowed to continue operating
both Saturday and Sunday. It has been doing so for many years. It harms
no one and permits a number of people operating at low income levels to
survive. Obviously it is popular with both the vendors and the public.
The permit specifications need to be adjusted to make an existing event
conform to the law.
