Baseball: Flory sharp again, but Eagles lose

IRVINE - Estancia High senior right-hander Paul Flory tossed
another effort worthy of a victory, but host Northwood took advantage of
two unearned runs and defeated the Eagles, 3-1, in a Pacific Coast League
baseball game Tuesday.
“He’s the best 0-9 pitcher anywhere,” Estancia Coach C.K. Green said
of Flory, who pitched a five-hitter, gave up only one earned run, struck
out two and walked nobody in his route-going performance, in which he
retired the first batter in five of six innings.
Northwood, which scored twice in the first inning, ignited by a Chris
Lewis triple, improved to 8-2 in league, while Estancia fell to 3-14-1,
1-9 in league.
Thomas Gray pitched a complete game for the Timberwolves, striking out
six and walking three in a game that lasted 1:45.
“(Flory) took it to the first-place team and did a great job,” said
Green, whose team will host Northwood Friday.
