Boys volleyball: Uni tops Mesa in five

COSTA MESA - Costa Mesa High’s boys volleyball team battled another
Pacific Coast League opponent Friday, but lost the fifth game against
University as the visiting Trojans defeated the Mustangs, 15-11, 9-15,
15-8, 5-15, 15-9.
“We’re battling everybody. We’re not going softly into the night,”
said Mesa Coach Dave Sorrells, whose team (9-7, 1-5 in the PCL) is now
5-2 in five-game matches.
Carlos Jaime led Mesa with 14 kills, six blocks and 20 digs, while
teammate Eli Solis added 11 kills and 23 digs and Jeff Collett nine
blocks. Setter Eddie Moreno had 30 assists and 16 digs with an injured
and heavily taped right wrist.
Costa Mesa will host its annual Alumni Match Monday night at 7
o’clock.
