With five men already charged in the alleged kidnapping a 37-year-old
Huntington Beach man, police are now looking for a sixth suspect.
Huntington Beach Police issued a $250,000 warrant for the arrest of
42-year-old Scott Douglas Burns of Vista, this week in connection with
the kidnapping of Sohiel Daliri.
Burns is described as 6-foot-2 and weighing 200 pounds with brown hair
and hazel eyes, said Sgt. Gary Meza with the Huntington Beach Police
Department.
Daliri was kidnapped on March 18 from a residence in Orange and held
against his will, police said. He was found in a Long Beach motel room
after kidnappers contacted his girlfriend 12 days after his disappearance
demanding ransom.
Five men have been charged with one count each of felony kidnapping
for ransom and are scheduled to be arraigned April 19 at the West Justice
Center in Westminster, said officials with the Orange County District
Attorney’s office.
The five suspects, Erick Velasquez, 20, of Rancho Santa Margarita;
Huntington Beach residents Mark E. Dumais, 28, and Brian D. Good, 27;
40-year-old Placentia resident Nasir Shamsi and 18-year-old Rancho Santa
Margarita resident Esau Abrajan, were all arrested at different times.
Authorities found the suspected kidnappers when they used Daliri’s
stolen credit cards to rent a truck and make purchases.
On March 30, kidnappers contacted Daliri’s girlfriend and demanded
money for his release. The girlfriend met with Good; but no ransom money
was exchanged, police said.
Detectives from the FBI maintained surveillance of Good and followed
him to Don’s Motel in Long Beach. When detectives arrived they found
Daliri secured and blindfolded with tape inside a motel room. Velasquez
was present in the room and arrested.
The first person arrested in connection with the kidnapping was a
juvenile picked up by the Lakewood Sheriff’s Department on suspicion of
auto theft and hit-and-run, six days after Daliri was kidnapped. The
juvenile was driving Daliri’s car, police said.
