Orange County CoastKeeper and the City of Huntington Beach are
having a Huntington Harbour Cleanup Day Saturday.
The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Percy Dock, off Warner
Avenue just inland from Pacific Coast Highway.Volunteers will be given an
opportunity to board boats and participate in the cleanup effort, said
Rich Barnard, director of communications for the city.
“There will be boats taking volunteers who sign liability waivers out
into the harbor and special skimming tools will be provided,” Barnard
said. “There will also be educational materials and exhibits pertaining
to debris cleanup and water quality issues.”
This is the first harbor cleanup conducted by the CoastKeeper, a group
dedicated to improving the water quality of county beaches, bays and
harbors.
“We will have food and snacks for the volunteers and Home Depot was a
big help by providing skimmers and debris bags for the boats,” said Beth
Nerrie of CoastKeeper. “Newport Harbor has been having harbor cleanups
for 20 years and we thought it was a good idea to get involved with
Huntington Harbour too.”
