Baseball: Milteberger outpitches Torrey

NEWPORT BEACH - Laguna Hills High senior and UCLA-bound Dan
Miltenberger won a pitching duel against Newport Harbor’s Ryan Torrey as
the Hawks edged the host Sailors, 2-1, in a Sea View League baseball game
Wednesday.
Miltenberger struck out nine and tossed a two-hitter as Laguna Hills
remained undefeated in six Sea View games.
The Hawks scored twice in the fifth to break a scoreless tie, then
Harbor (4-11, 0-7 in league) rallied for a run in the bottom half of the
inning, but left runners on second and third with nobody out.
In the seventh, the Sailors loaded the bases with two outs, but
Miltenberger coaxed the final hitter into a game-ending groundout.
Torrey, a junior right-hander, struck out three, walked only one and
yielded five hits in a route-going effort.
“That’s his best outing of the year,” Newport Harbor Coach Joel
Desguin said.
The Tars play host Woodbridge Friday at Windrow Park in Irvine at 7
p.m.
