Four Newport-Mesa Unified School District high school students scored
a hole-in-one Tuesday in the Toshiba Senior Classic Scholarship Fund,
earning a check for $2,500 and a Toshiba laptop computer.
The scholarships were awarded to a senior from each high school in the
Newport-Mesa Unified, Irvine Unified, Saddleback Valley Unified and the
Huntington Beach Unified school districts.
To be eligible, seniors had to be in the upper half of their
graduating class, receive two recommendations from school representatives
and demonstrate leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities or
community service.
The scholarship fund is a joint effort by the tournament sponsor,
Toshiba America Information Systems and the operator, Hoag Hospital
Foundation.
District winners include Melissa Blair of Corona del Mar High School,
Socrates Cruz of Costa Mesa High School, Hani Charezaie of Estancia High
School and Caroline Geehr of Newport Harbor High School.
