four

HUNTINGTON BEACH - The Orange Coast College men’s volleyball team

grabbed momentum in a third-game loss to claim a 30-21, 33-31, 29-31, 30-26 Orange Empire Conference victory over host Golden West, in a battle

of district rivals Friday.

OCC sophomores Jeff Taylor and Soeren Schneider both amassed 16 kills

to lead the Pirates (10-0, 5-0 in the OEC), while freshman Zach Jardine

contributed 14 kills and sophomore setter Scott Winant added 34 assists.

The Rustlers dropped to 5-3, 3-2.

“Even though we lost the third game, we built a lot of momentum at the

end,” OCC Coach Chuck Cutenese said. “(The game) definitely had that

rivalry feel to it. A lot of the kids know each other. It really was an

exciting match.”

The Pirates, who have closed the first round of OEC play, travel to

South Coast Conference foe Santa Barbara for interconference action

Wednesday at 7 p.m.
