College baseball: UCI makes it four in a row

ANTEATER BALLPARK - The UC Irvine baseball team won its fourth
consecutive game with a 7-2 nonconference victory over visiting St.
Mary’s College Friday night.
UCI catcher Chris Miller pounded his second home run of the season
with a two-run shot off of St. Mary starter Mike Byer to put the
Anteaters up 2-1 in the first inning.
St. Mary’s Jason Waugh hit his second home run of the evening to make
it, 3-2, but the Anteaters (5-4) extended their lead with a four-run
seventh inning, cashing in on four consecutive singles.
Miller, rightfielder Jordan Szabo and shortstop B.J. Eucce collected
two hits and and two RBIs apiece, while third baseman Steve Guthrie went
2 for 3 with two runs scored.
UCI starter Paul French recorded his first win of the season, going
six innings and giving up two runs on six hits while striking out six.
The Gaels dropped to 0-4.
