CATHEDRAL CITY - The Estancia High girls basketball team lost an
11-point fourth-quarter lead and suffered a 49-45 nonleague loss at
Cathedral City Tuesday.
The Eagles (2-5) fell into foul trouble in the fourth quarter as
sophomores Trisha Wase (seven points) and Crystal Mino fouled out.
Trailing, 41-30, after three quarters, the Lions (7-3) outscored
Estancia, 19-4, in the fourth.
Junior Tisha Gray, who along with Wase and Mino, returned to the
starting lineup after a one-game absence due to a missed practice and
subsequent discipline by their coach Paul Kirby. Gray led the Eagles with
18 points, while junior Xochitl Byfield scored 12.
“We should have won, we just didn’t play very well in the fourth
quarter,” Kirby said. “ We had only one field goal (a three-pointer by
Byfield) in the fourth. We just have to get ready for (today) and El
Toro. They beat us, 50-42, earlier in the season.”
Estancia will face El Toro at 6 p.m. in the Mission Viejo Tournament
at Mission Viejo High.
