Huntington Beach Elks Lodge 1959, serving Huntington Beach and
Fountain Valley, donated $1,000 to each city’s police-sponsored anti-drug
program. The donation supports Huntington Beach’s PRIDE program. The
group also donated a 61-inch TV set to the Veterans Hospital in Long
Beach. . . . Karin ChiaLun Shieh has enrolled at Harvard University. She
is the daughter of Jiann Sheng Shieh and Suzanne Shieh of Huntington
Beach and a graduate of Fountain Valley High School. . . . Army Spec.
Zachary Kiesel has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal for
completing a military obligation or term of service in a commendable and
distinguished manner. The medal is awarded to those who demonstrate
outstanding achievement or meritorious service in the performance of
their duties. Kiesel received the medal while assigned as a Bradley
fighting vehicle driver with Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry
at Camp Casey, Tongduchon-Up, South Korea. He is the son of Holly Whalen
and Jeff Kiesel of Huntington Beach. . . . Army Pvt. Maya Wilburn has
graduated from the unit supply specialist advanced individual training
course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. Her training included instruction in
receiving, segregating and storing organizational and installation
supplies and equipment, and maintaining automated supply systems for
accountability with use of unit computers. Wilburn is the daughter of
Susan Bisso of Long Beach and the sister of Najah Bisso of Huntington
Beach. She is a 2000 graduate of Artesia High School in Lakewood. . . .
Army Reserve Pvt. Jeff Pierce has graduated from basic combat military
training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. His training included instruction in
drill and ceremonies, weapons , map reading, tactics and military
justice. Pierce is the son of Ruth Pierce of Huntington Beach.
