It was business as usual for local high school tennis powers Corona
del Mar and Newport Harbor Tuesday afternoon as Corona handled visiting
Rosary, 18-0, and Newport dispatched Sunny Hills, 12-6, at the Sunny
Hills Racquet Club.
Corona del Mar’s Pacific Coast League champions improved to 21-0 and
moved into the CIF Division IV semifinals on Thursday at a site to be
determined by coin flip. The University-Santa Barbara winner will furnish
the opposition.
Newport Harbor (14-3) won seven of nine singles matches in its CIF
Division II duel with Sunny Hills, led by No. 1 standout Natalie
Braverman’s sweep, and Kelly Nelson and Kristy McIntosh, who delivered
another sweep. Also with a big effort, according to Coach Fletcher Olson,
was Diana Khoury in singles, who took two of three matches.
The Sailors await today’s coin flip for the site of their match on
Thursday against the Santa Barbara-University survivor.
