Orange Coast College’s undefeated women’s water polo team continued
their runaway ride through Southern California competition Saturday,
smashing Saddleback in a semifinal, 12-3, then punishing Long Beach City
College, 8-3, to lay claim to the Citrus College Tournament championship.
Devon Wright scored three goals and Neisha Hoagland and Christine
McDonald each scored twice to help the Pirates do away with Long Beach in
the final. It was scoreless through the first quarter, but the Pirates
broke it open with four unanswered goals in the second period.
It was OCC’s 21st straight victory.
Heather Deyden, a product of Newport Harbor High, had 13 saves to put
Long Beach (11-3) away.
In the semifinal, Hoagland had three goals, and Sheri Meyer and Nicole
Sonnenfeld each had two scores.
