SURF AND SUN

WEATHER FORECAST
There’s a warm, mostly sunny morning outside with temperatures already
into the upper 60s by 7 a.m. And it’s just the beginning of a hot one,
with highs reaching the mid-80s by 3 p.m. and the sun shining brightly.
It’ll start to cool pretty quickly, however. By dinner time, it should
be a comfortable 78 degrees and still cloudless. It’ll stay warm all
night, too, right in the mid-60s again.
BOATING FORECAST
Mild west winds less than 10 knots and some bits of dense fog start
off the morning in the harbor. By the afternoon, the winds will pick up
just a bit to between 10 and 15 knots, producing 1- to 2-foot wind waves.
The swells will be about 4 feet.
In the deeper waters, strong winds will be whipping northwest of San
Nichols Island throughout the day. Winds will be between 15 and 25 knots, with waves to 4 feet. The swell out of the northwest is at 6 feet.
SURF
Just in time for the weekend there’s . . . nothing. Waist-high waves
rule the day. And they’re inconsistent at that. The southwest swell is
fading, and the northwest wind swell isn’t doing much to compel you into
the lineup. What’s out there will be shut down by a 4-foot-high tide at
10 a.m. It’s an average, lousy day off Newport Beach. If you see a
barrel, tuck into it.
