As Little League All-Star battles heat up for locals, some baseball
standouts juggle other sports in the summer.
Take Ryan Knapp of the Costa Mesa National Little League 9-10 All-Star
team, for example.
Knapp also competed in the 11th annual Costa Mesa Junior Golf
Championships at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club recently and finished
tied for third in the boys 11-and-under division, shooting 42.
Knapp, who will play baseball for Mesa beginning Saturday in a Little
League all-star tournament, is preparing for the Junior World Golf
Championships in San Diego next month.
A few years back, Josh Bradbury of Newport Coast was another example
of a young two-sport standout. He was the star pitcher for the Newport
Beach Little League All-Stars, while competing in the Southern California
Junior Tennis Sectionals at Los Caballeros in Fountain Valley.
Little Leaguers get back in the groove today as the Newport Beach
American Majors face Laguna Niguel in the opening round of the District
55 All-Star Tournament at Youth Sports Park in Mission Viejo at 5:30 p.m.
