WHAT HAPPENED:
The administration submitted a new board policy and
administrative regulations that addressed energy and water conservation.
Supt. James Tarwater responded to questions from the board.
WHAT IT MEANS:
In a unanimous vote, the trustees supported the belief that it is
responsible to insure that every effort is made to conserve energy and
natural resources, while exercising sound financial management.

WHAT HAPPENED:
Tarwater again fielded questions in response to the proposed energy
management conservation plan, a modified summer work schedule, which the
board passed unanimously.
WHAT IT MEANS:
Employees will now work a modified summer schedule, from June 25 to
Aug. 3. Hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., or 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday
through Thursday. Prior to the board meeting, a district office survey
resulted in a majority number of employees favoring a modified summer
work schedule. Exempt from this will be employees with summer school
responsibilities. The administration was looking for ways to reduce
energy consumption and conserve resources.

WHAT HAPPENED:
The board approved a renewal agreement to continue utilizing crossing
guard services.
WHAT IT MEANS:
At a zero increase of cost over the 2000-2001 agreement, a renewal
agreement was made for the current one, which expires June 30, 2001. The
total cost of the 2001-2002 Crossing Guard Program is $5,487, the same as
the 2000-2001 agreement. The district will budget half of these costs
($2.7 million) to be expended from the general fund.
Chief Financial Officer Mary Lou Beckmann executed the agreement.
NEXT MEETING
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. July 10 in the district board
room, 17200 Pinehurst Lane, Huntington Beach.
HUNTINGTON BEACH CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT WRAP-UP

WHAT HAPPENED:
The board approved the employee agreement between the Huntington Beach
City School District and Supt. Duane Dishno.
WHAT IT MEANS:
The agreement permits Dishno to provide administrative advice and
services to the district in implementing, administering and/or
formulating policies, regulations and practices relating to the
district’s instructional and operational program.
Services will be provided on a per diem and as needed basis, from July
1 to Sept. 30.
Dishno’s retirement is effective July 1 and the appointment of a new
superintendent is not anticipated to occur until mid-August. The newly
appointed individual will assume office on or about Sept. 1.

WHAT HAPPENED:
The board approved to ensure that the district has compiled with the
requirements of Education Code 60252 (a).
