PLANNING COMMISSION WRAP-UP

WHAT HAPPENED:

The Planning Commission approved permits for a 10-foot block wall

behind a Huntington Harbour home.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The wall, a combination 4-foot retaining wall and 6-foot high block

wall, is set to go up along the rear property line of a house in the

17000 block of Westport Drive.

Similar walls were approved for two locations in the 16000 block of

Westport Drive and included setback stipulations to allow for vegetation

to screen the walls from other nearby residence.

City officials said the proposed design of the wall, with its

landscape planter to screen it from neighbors, is acceptable to the

Huntington Harbour Property Assn., which has worked with the city on

similar projects in the past.

Vote:

6-0, with Commissioner Jan Shomaker absent.

WHAT HAPPENED:

Commissioners OK’d a proposal for a 600-square-foot covered patio area

for interior dining at 221 Main St.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The new restaurant Tuna Town will be allowed to replace an existing

glass window screen along the front city-owned plaza area with a 5-foot

stucco wall that would match with the rest of the building. Windows would

be installed between existing support columns.

Tuna Town, a planned sushi/teppan restaurant, already had the capacity

for an outdoor dining patio, but owners said an enclosed area was

preferable because it allowed year-round evening dining and appealed to

upscale clientele.

Vote:

6-0. with Commissioner Jan Shomaker absent.

NEXT MEETING

The Planning Commission will reconvene 7 p.m. July 10 in the council

chambers of City Hall at 2000 Main St.
