Pony All-Stars: CdM makes good in Cypress tourney

The Corona del Mar 14-year-old All-Stars team, of the Newport
Harbor Baseball Association, reeled off two dramatic victories Sunday and
Monday in the Cypress Tournament.
In a rematch from an earlier tournament in the season, the CdM
14-year-olds claimed revenge for a one-point loss from Whittier.
Using solid defense and sound pitching from Tyler Lance and Wes
Presson, CdM won 5-4 as Blake Allred punched in two key hits and earned
two RBIs. Presson scored three runs and held Whittier scoreless in the
last inning.
Catcher Matt Busch contributed on defense and Jaik Ballback, who
battled the sun in right field, came up with highlight-reel-type catches.
CdM then stepped up with another big-time victory with a 3-2, win over
East Hills, Monday. Again, with defensive prowess and pitchers Morgan
Dunzer and Presson, CdM was able to record its first win in three games
against East Hills, over the past two years.
Presson passed the test in what Coach Kevin Quick called, “his
toughest challenge yet.”
