NMPC: Newport Sea Dogs stun the CdM Cardinals

NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor Sea Dogs advanced to the

quarterfinals of the Newport-Mesa Pony Conference playoffs (ages 13-14)

with a 9-6 upset win over the second-seeded Corona del Mar Cardinals

Saturday.

Pitcher Kevin Couvoisier scattered eight hits and gave up only three

earned runs, while striking out seven. At the plate, he also had three

hits, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Aaron Harper, Couvoisier, Cheyne Smith, Michael Cantwell and Timmy

Bodenhofer sparked a Sea Dogs rally before Matt Paine and Joe Riggio came

through with clutch hits to drive in three runs.

The Sea Dogs will play in Tuesday night’s quarterfinals against the

winner of the Costa Mesa Indians-Calvary Chapel Eagles contest.
