Boys volleyball: Burden MVP of PCL
Corona del Mar High senior setter Evan Burden, who helped the Sea
Kings share the Pacific Coast League title, has been named Most Valuable
Player in the league by the circuit’s coaches.
CdM seniors Brian Gallagher and Charlie Alshuler, second-team picks as
juniors, are first-team selections, while four Newport-Mesa players are
members of the second team.
CdM seniors Forrest Mack and Garrett Macklin, as well as Costa Mesa
senior Mike Payne and Estancia senior Dan Wotta, are second-team
honorees.
Gallagher and Alshuler, both outside hitters, were big reasons the Sea
Kings advanced to the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship
match, their fifth straight appearance in a CIF final.
Mack, Macklin, Payne and Wotta were all middle blockers. Mack also
earned second-team recognition as a junior.
