SAN CLEMENTE - With 36th-hole highlights, two Corona del Mar High
golfers finished in the top six of the Pacific Coast League boys golf
championship Tuesday at San Clemente Golf Course to advance to the CIF
Southern California individual regionals May 14.
CdM’s Brad Chamberlin was steady for two days, shooting 74-74--148, to
finish second, while freshman teammate Alex Chikovani sank a dramatic
15-foot putt on the last hole to lock up the final qualifying spot.
University’s Nick Kim earned medalist honors at 71-76--147, followed
by Chamberlin, Laguna Beach’s Mike Cavallari (149), Uni’s Hunter Kenihan
(149), Uni’s Nino Boonyaplaini (150) and Chikovani, who was aware that if
he missed the 15-footer for par at 18 it would force a playoff for the
sixth spot with Estancia’s Jason Cassidy (77-74--151).
Costa Mesa’s Bryce Sheridan and CdM’s Jason Wishengard also survived
Monday’s cut to 12 players and played in the final round.
